Water Resources

Regulation

Arizona’s 1980 Groundwater Management Act created the Arizona Department of Water Resources and defined regulatory structures for water management in the state. Casa Grande is located within the Pinal Active Management Area (AMA). An AMA is an area regulated by the Arizona Department of Water Resources to manage groundwater level depletion. Management plans were created in each AMA which contain conservation best management practices aimed at reducing groundwater demand. Supply

Casa Grande receives its water supply from both groundwater and surface water. Groundwater is pumped from wells into the distribution system where it is treated and then delivered to customers. Surface water is received from the Colorado River via the Central Arizona Project (CAP). For more information on this, you can watch the Water Journey Video for Casa Grande here.
