Landscaping Resources

Interested in creating beautiful and water efficient desert landscaping on your property? Resources abound on native plant selection, water efficient irrigation and designing xeriscapes.

Own A Lawn?

Warm season turfgrasses like Bermuda grass become dormant during the winter, causing them to become brown and brittle. However, this does not mean the grass is dead! Bermuda grass will begin to grow again once temperatures rise again around March. You can choose to leave it be for the winter and enjoy reduced water bills and less landscaping work or overseed with a winter grass. If choosing to overseed, be sure to sow the seeds around the right time of the year and water efficiently. You can find more information on how to do this here.

Monsoon Season

New to Arizona? Monsoon season brings dust storms (haboobs) and rain/thunder storms typically from June to September. This occurs due to seasonal changes in wind patterns which transform dry westerly winds into moist southerly winds that pull humidity upwards from the Gulf of Mexico. These storm events can be accompanied by flash flooding, low visibility on roadways and strong winds.
